Teton County Commission Independent candidate Alex Muromcew grew up in Washington, D.C. and has lived in Jackson for 20 years. Roxana Wortman grew up in Arequipa, Peru, and moved to Jackson in 2012.
In this conversation, Muromcew and Wortman talk about their fathers and how they influenced their perspectives on the world and politics. Muromcew’s father immigrated to the United States from the former Soviet Union and became a foreign service officer for the U.S. State Department. Wortman’s father was born in Peru to humble beginnings; he carried his shoes for his two-hour walk to school. He became a businessman in the plastics industry, where he has worked for 50 years.
Muromcew worked in finance in international portfolio management, has served on the boards of the Jackson Hole Land Trust, Silicon Couloir and the Mountain Health Coop and has served on the Teton County Planning Commission for the past 7 years.
Wortman is a high school Spanish teacher at the Jackson Hole Community School. She lives in Alpine with her Vermont-born husband and 17-year-old son. She values being able to have meaningful conversations with people from all political beliefs in Alpine’s Common Ground program.
This conversation was recorded for KHOL’s One Small Step Program, which brings people with different beliefs into the recording studio to discover common ground. For election season, KHOL paired candidates running for local office with the constituents they aim to represent.
