Teton County Commission Democratic candidate Karyn Chin grew up in suburban Connecticut. She says she feels tied to Jackson and the Western ethos of living intentionally in a community in which we are responsible for one another.

Patrick Todd moved to Alta from New Jersey with his wife and kids. Todd describes himself as a registered Republican, formerly a registered Libertarian, who is more liberal on social issues.

In this conversation, Chin and Todd discuss who influenced them the most. For Chin, her daughter has taught her to live for someone else, rather than herself. Todd says his father taught him to be positive.

Chin is running for a seat on the Teton County Commission. She is a grassroots organizer, political consultant and co-founder of JH Pride. Todd is a two-time Olympic rower and recently stepped back from his career in investment management to spend more time with his wife and three kids.

This conversation was recorded for KHOL’s One Small Step Program, which brings people with different beliefs into the recording studio to discover common ground. For election season, KHOL paired candidates running for local office with the constituents they aim to represent.
