Part of the popular Moose-Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park is now closed for the next two months.

Drivers and cyclists coming north from Teton Village can get up to – but not pass – the Laurence S. Rockefeller Preserve. Visitors to the park will be rerouted until at least Nov. 15. Then, it will transition to seasonal recreation use as the road usually closes to cars for the winter on Nov. 1. The closure allows for the road’s realignment north of Sawmill Ponds to meet a new roundabout near the park’s southern Moose entrance.

The closure coincides with the yearlong closure of the Death Canyon Trailhead to accommodate more cars and people. That has added extra mileage for hikers who still want to hit the area’s trails from other parking lots and trailheads.

The park says it ramped up construction this year to prepare for centennial celebrations in 2029.
