Jackson 6 Brings Joy via Modern Nostalgia

Bandleader John Kidwell discusses the deep roots of his musical family and the satisfaction he gets from getting the dance floor rockin' to New Orleans-style jazz.

The local New Orleans-style jazz-ensemble Jackson 6 is known for their high energy performances featuring an assortment of jazz, rock, bluegrass and pop. Described as a “traditional jazz band with a modern twist,” Jackson 6 recently released their latest album, “Lowjacked:” a collection of both original and traditional songs featuring numerous local musicians.

In advance of the group’s recent performance at the Silver Dollar, Jackson 6 bandleader John Kidwell joined us in the KHOL studio to discuss the deep roots of his musical family, the new Jackson 6 album and the satisfaction he gets from seeing the reactions in the crowd when Jackson 6 gets the dance floor rockin’.
