Grammy-nominated guitarist, songwriter and producer Doc Powell’s jazz/funk/rock sound has made him one of the most sought-after musicians in the industry. Powell has played alongside legendary artists like Luther Vandross, Prince, Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys.

Powell has also released 12 solo albums on his own label, DPR Music Group, featuring guest artists including Sheila E, George Duke and Boney James. In advance of his sold-out show at the Silver Dollar here in Jackson, Doc Powell joined us by phone to discuss his years collaborating with Vandross, the importance of versatility in the music industry and how an open mind always wins in the end.
