Another KHOL veteran is leaving the building.

Today is Michael Moeri’s last day at KHOL. The interim station manager and music and marketing director has been KHOL’s backbone for the last four years. For example, let’s say something terrible happens, like a volunteer DJ hits the wrong switch on the mixing board and the station goes off the air (certainly, such a thing has never happened). Moeri has been known to stop what he’s doing—no matter what that is and no matter where he is—and come to the rescue.

He is also behind the scenes, supporting DJs, keeping KHOL’s music fresh and interfacing with dozens of community members, businesses and nonprofits to draw in the financial support that keeps Jackson’s nonprofit community radio station on the air. Akin to his former colleague and station manager Zach Zimmerman, it all started with volunteering. Moeri’s maiden voyage onto the airwaves was in 2011. He has continued to DJ for KHOL to this day. So what drew him to volunteer in the first place?
