Crews are getting a hold on the Fish Creek fire this week, thanks to some help from the cooler weather and recent rain.

They have completed 69 percent of the fire mitigation tasks they set out to do to get the fire out. As of Thursday, the fire had burned just under 25,000 acres.

Fremont County took its evacuation order down a notch, from a “Level 3” mandatory notice to “Level 2,” meaning residents can return home but should still be ready to leave again at a moment’s notice.

The evacuation warning remains in effect for the Brooks Lake, Pinnacle, and Breccia areas, where a forest closure is also still in place.

The recent rain has also helped a lot with air quality — and it’s expected to continue today with scattered showers, thunderstorms and temperature highs around forty degrees. Unhealthy levels of smoke may continue along the Highway 26 corridor or in low drainages. Rain and cooler temps help Fish Creek fire

Decreased visibility from the smoke is also still expected along the Pass though it remains open in both directions for motorists.
