Emily Novak, a volunteer for Jackson Hole Pride, will bring a new event this year to the monthlong lineup of events celebrating the LGBTQ community.

This year’s showing of the film, “But I’m a Cheerleader,” is intended to be fun and lighthearted, Novak said. The 1999 satirical teen romcom stars Natasha Lyonne as a lesbian high school cheerleader sent to conversion therapy camp.

I think it’s got great representation for all of our communities,” Novak said, “queer, gay, lesbian, trans.”

The screening starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 26th at the Teton County library. There will be food and an opportunity to discuss the film after. It’s rated R and recommended for those 18 years old and older.

Even if it’s someone’s first time attending a queer event, Novak, there’s no reason to be nervous.

We are a welcoming, open-armed community that should and always will be a safe space, so please come join,” Novak said.

In addition to the movie night, Jackson Hole Pride lists a half dozen more events in June.

At 6 p.m. on Friday, June 13, the Wilson elementary playground will be filled with rollerbladers of all skill levels. Some experience is recommended and rollerblades are not provided, according to the JH Pride website. Next Tuesday, June 17 is the third annual queer clothing swap, a chance for people to reimagine the typical gendering of dresses and jeans. On Friday, June 20 the Home Yoga Studio is hosting a group somatic therapy workshop in partnership with Community Safety Network.
