ICE rumors swirl, remain unconfirmed in western Wyoming

Immigration enforcement watchdogs haven’t confirmed official sightings of federal activity around Teton County.

But for months, some immigrants and advocates have been on-edge following online rumors that federal agents booked hotel rooms around the area this week on behalf of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The anxiety comes as the Trump administration delivers on an election promise of mass deportation. Immigration enforcement in Teton County most commonly comes in the form of ICE transfers from the county jail. But at least twice in 2025, federal officials were reported in the area for street operations.

Teton County Wyoming Sheriff Matt Carr said he has not heard from ICE that officers would be in Jackson this week. Teton County Idaho’s sheriff could not be reached for comment.

Online social media reports of ICE agents in Idaho Falls over the weekend left Todo TV reporter Alicia Unger responding to a flurry of texts and calls. She’s encouraging others to stay calm, know their rights and wait to verify information.

“People contact me at one o’clock in the morning. [Asking] what is happening?”

Dozens called the Wyoming Immigrant Advocacy Project over the last few weeks, said Executive Director Emily Gomez.

The Jackson organization provides legal assistance and as of this year, runs a hotline and trains a group of verifiers for on-scene checks following reports of ICE in the area.

Gomez has a similar message.

“At this point, there’s a lot of rumors going around. We have yet to see them with our own eyes. We have yet to receive any sort of confirmation from our own verifiers,” she said.

On Friday, the nonprofit reported via Instagram that it also could not confirm an operation in Teton Valley, Idaho.
