The Jackson Hole Jewish Community and the Chabad Jewish Center of Wyoming plan to add vigils and commemorations of life to annual holiday celebrations.

That’s after gunmen killed at least 15 people in Australia during a Jewish Holiday celebration on Dec. 14. National outlets are reporting that the shooting on the first day of Hanukkah was one of the deadliest attacks on the Jewish community in Australian history.

Jackson Hole Jewish Community Rabbi Josh Kleyman described the shooting, which Australian officials are investigating as an act of terrorism, as “heartbreaking and horrendous.”

“It was a true act of terror,” he said.

Chabad will host an annual town square menorah lighting on Saturday, Dec. 20.

The same day the Jackson Hole Jewish Community is inviting the public to attend its 47th annual Hanukkah party at the Jackson Hole Conference Center.
