High winds fanned a wildfire that broke out just south of Togwotee Pass. It had grown to more than 150 acres as of 5:44 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Bridger-Teton National Forest is asking the public to stay off Flagstaff Road while firefighting efforts are underway. The fire has sparked over the road that offers access to dispersed camping.
The Spread Creek Fire is the first major wildfire of the season in Teton County besides two out-of-control prescribed burns that crews quickly contained.
Teton Interagency Fire responded as the area was hit by high winds and a severe thunderstorm watch. As of Wednesday afternoon, the forest service said more resources were on the way.
The forest hasn’t yet said what caused the fire.
