Candidate for town council, Perri Stern (age 64) met Jackson resident Paulina Juarez Quiroz (age 29). Stern is a retired occupational therapist and college professor who moved to Jackson eight years ago. She works as a non-profit consultant and community organizer. She is a married mother of two adult children. Juarez Quiroz is a businesswoman who emigrated from Tlaxcala, Mexico. She has lived in Jackson for five years and is married to a born-and-raised town resident with family ties to her home state.

This conversation was recorded for KHOL’s One Small Step Program, a StoryCorps initiative that brings people with different beliefs into the recording studio to talk and discover their common ground. For election season, KHOL paired candidates running for local office with the constituents they aim to represent. These conversations cover the who and the why behind our political and religious beliefs and, in just an hour, seek to find some common ground.

Conversations will be archived at the Library of Congress.
