Jackson Residents Howl for Frontline Workers

The howl is Wyoming speak for thank you. It is the locals' way of connecting and showing support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What do we do when we hear a howl? According to Lisa Robertson of Howl For Wyoming, we stop and listen. The howl is Wyoming-speak for thank you. In Italy it’s an opera aria; in Spain it’s the banging of pots and pans; in New York City it’s applause.

These gestures of solidarity and support have grown in popularity as the COVID-19 pandemic keeps people from their friends and neighbors. The songs, applause and howls ring out among empty streets each evening around the globe, and at 8 p.m. in Jackson Hole.

Listen above for Robertson’s howl.
