Steve Tyler and Matt Walker have a Grand Teton story that eclipses perhaps all others. They were both struck by lightning on the 13,776-foot peak. It was July 2010 and the men were with different groups on different parts of the mountain. That day they were among the people rescued during the largest rescue to date on the Grand Teton. And while you may remember the incident, their stories and the stories of the rescuers have never been told quite this way. That is, through the rescue podcast The Fine Line.
KHOL airs this new episode of The Fine Line 6 p.m. on Monday. Produced by Teton County Search and Rescue, The Fine Line paints a vivid picture of what transpires during mountain rescues. Host Rebecca Huntington sits down with the people rescued and the rescuers. In turn, the show brings into focus the many folks affected by these incidents.
Ahead of The Fine Line’s KHOL premiere, Huntington and Matt Hansen, communications manager for Teton County Search and Rescue Foundation, discussed Teton rescues and that harrowing day on the Grand Teton.
