A giant in the Jackson arts community, Center for the Arts announced May 29 that the Internal Revenue Service had revoked its tax-exempt status. That happened because of what Center for the Arts president and CEO David Rothman calls a “communication breakdown” between the IRS and the Center.
The IRS revoked the Center’s status because it is missing three consecutive years of tax filings, but the Center maintains it filed those forms.
Now the Center is working to reinstate its nonprofit status as quickly as possible. For more on what this situation means for Center of the Arts and its 19 resident organizations (KHOL happens to be one of them), David Rothman visited the KHOL studio.
