It was standing room only at the Pink Garter Theatre on Tuesday night. Hundreds of people crammed into the downtown Jackson venue for the all-stars Cabin Fever Story Slam. The storytellers were Jackson’s creme de la creme. All were previous story slam winners.

Teton County Library has shined a light on some of the area’s unexpected and most gifted storytellers with its frequent story slams. For each event, the library’s Leah Shlachter, who produces the live storytelling events, designates a theme and brave residents oblige by divulging their best stories. In between, emcee Jeff Moran draws no shortage of laughs from the crowd. He too tells a story (sometimes multiple tales).

Sure, Moran’s stories are impressive but he gets a lot of practice as emcee. What about the contestants who often get just one shot? We brought first place winner Chris O’Blenness into the studio to learn about his storytelling experience. Is he a natural or did he invest painstaking hours in his winning tale?
