How has life changed for you amid the COVID-19 pandemic? Recently reporter Alex Thompson went for a walk and took the town’s coronavirus temperature, if you will. She asked people how they’re getting by. 

Thompson spent the two preceding weeks talking to folks in the service sector: workers with no work, restaurant owners struggling to stay open, people navigating unemployment and federal relief. 

By the numbers, it is an uncertain and frightening time. The pandemic’s effects are measurable in some ways, but uniquely varied from one life to another. In interviews and conversations, Thompson was most struck by people’s strength and optimism.
