Alvaro Santiago Par-Toc, 23, was arrested Tuesday evening for allegedly exposing himself to multiple women throughout West Jackson by lifting his shirt and pulling down his pants.
Six incidents since early September have been reported in several stores and on the bike path near Russ Garaman Park
Jackson Police Lt. Russ Ruschill said the police department collected reports from victims and security footage from stores before deciding to solicit tips from the public. They released details of the suspect to the public Tuesday, which led to a tip from a community member via Facebook.
“We spoke to a person who was familiar with our now defendant,” Ruschill said, “who said that he used to work with him and recognized him.”
Police made the arrest later Tuesday evening.
Two of the six reports were filed after the police department first reached out to the public. Ruschill said that’s common for cases like this. He believes there could be more reports in the future as information of Santiago Par-Toc’s arrest becomes more available.
“I don’t think we’re going to be isolated to just six incidents,” Ruschill said.
Ruschill added that the police department takes crimes like “indecent exposure” very seriously.
“Anytime we have cases like this we become very concerned because those are usually kind of entry-level and we don’t want people to escalate to sexual assault or groping people or going further,” he said.
Santiago Par-Toc was arraigned Thursday afternoon and bail was set at $5,000. He is being charged with indecent exposure in municipal court and stalking in the circuit court. He could face fines and jail time of up to a year if found guilty.
