A rancher in Hot Springs County is set to receive nearly $340,000 from the state for his stock killed by grizzly bears and mountain lions. That award is almost four times the compensation that Wyoming Game and Fish typically pays for such incidents.

WyoFile reporter Angus Thuermer Jr. attended the hearing where an arbitration panel delivered this verdict. His story and other recent reporting explains that the ruling is part of a lengthy battle pitting public wildlife values against private property rights.
