The Wyoming Department of Transportation temporarily re-opened U.S. Highway 26/287 over Togwotee Pass this morning. The road, west of Dubois, had been intermittently closed all week due to excessive smoke from the nearby Fish Creek Fire.
Maintenance crews will be guiding cars near the Fremont-Teton county line until 4:00 p.m. today, where the fire has been most active near the highway from mile markers 26 to 29.8.
If smoke conditions improve, the road could remain open over the weekend. Drivers are encouraged to check road status updates, found at www.wyoroad.info/ or via the Wyoming 511 app.
As of Friday morning, the fire has burned 19,952 acres and fire crews have completed 66% of their fire mitigation tasks. The Brooks Lake, Pinnacle Drive and Breccia Drive areas remain under a “Level 3” mandatory evacuation.
Forecasts call for sunny skies with warm and dry conditions through the weekend. As fuels dry out, the fire is expected to continue to grow.
