This free event features a live One Small Step conversation between former mayor Pete Muldoon and town council member Jim Rooks. The two ran against each other in 2020 for a town council seat. They’ve agreed to sit down for their first conversation since that contentious election. Additionally, other participants will share their reflections on their own One Small Step conversations. KHOL will also debut a new rotating public art exhibit with snippets of recorded One Small Step conversations programmed into vintage rotary phones.
This is the culminating event for a year-long effort spearheaded by KHOL in western Wyoming to improve civic discourse and mend political division. One Small Step is based on contact theory, which states that a meaningful interaction between people with opposing views can help turn “thems” into “us-es.” Since its launch in 2021, over 3,400 people across 40 states have participated in a One Small Step conversation.
