It’s no secret Jackson has a representation problem. Up to 30 percent of the population is Latinx yet zero members of that community sit on town council or the county commission. And each of those bodies only has one woman. During a political forum Wednesday, candidates for mayor and town council were asked about this. What actionable steps would they take to ensure members of underrepresented communities are heard and adequately represented?
Few town candidates seem equipped to address this. Most of the responses indicated candidates don’t have a grasp on the problem or don’t have many solutions.
